Look Back In AngerBy John Osborne Was Presented from: Look Back in Anger was presented as and Actor's Equity Association Members' project code presentation. Look Back in Anger appealed to the company as an ideal piece with which to launch the OrFREEo Show initiative. By bringing one free show to Boston audiences in addition to its other productions throughout the year, the group's main goal is to encourage the attendance of new theatre-goers, those who might not risk the ever-increasing price of a theatre ticket-while delivering high production values at no cost to the audience. The play takes an intimate look into the lives of four young, troubled individuals and possesses a particular relevancy to today's world in which many young people struggle against an increasing cultural apathy to make their voices heard. About the ShowFirst produced in 1956, Look Back in Anger focuses on young jazz musician Jimmy Porter, a "malevolently vital, volcanically articulate internal exile" and his relentless attempts to draw those around him into his passionate and punishing personal storm. His impassive wife Alison, their jovial friend and roommate Cliff, and Alison?s hard-hitting best friend Helena add the essential fuel to Jimmy's fire. While the roots of his over-educated and under-employed frustrations are embedded in his claustrophobic environment in post-WWII Britain, Jimmy also displays a distinctive restlessness and frustration with society that proves instantly recognizable to American audiences today. Look Back in Anger explores the multitude of ways in which men and women love, hate, need and reject one another and gives a powerful, often shocking voice to issues of religion, politics, class and relationships.
